Holiday Tour of Homes 2016

After many months of planning by dedicated volunteers of McDonough Arts Council, the Henry Holiday Tour of Homes 2016 happened today!

I was assigned as a docent for a beautiful home in Stockbridge, Georgia. When I pulled up to the house, I was in love and knew that I was in for a treat.

If you have never participated in a tour of homes, here's how it works. A charity, church, synagogue or other organization establishes a tour as a fundraiser. Home owners are approached and asked if they would like to open their homes to individuals who purchase tickets in exchange for a tour of local homes. There is usually a limit to the number of homes on the tour especially if the homes are separated by more than a few miles distance. Ticket holders drive their own vehicles, visit/tour the homes, meet new people and get ideas for their own homes.

The home owner I was paired with today is an absolute sweetheart. She is a self-described southern belle and native Georgia peach. I'm so thrilled to have met her and we became fast friends!

Enough gabbing! Let me take you on the tour...

Let's start with the entryway. Because of the number of people visiting this house, the homeowner directed people through the garage. Every nook and cranny of this house is decorated, festive, beautiful and inspiring! So much thought and love has gone into putting this house together. I'm so glad I got to see it first hand.

Next, is the laundry room...

And now, we enter the kitchen...

The master bedroom...

The family room...

Look closely at this tree. The homeowners took round mirrors from Michael's, added faux snow to the edge and then added the ice skaters. How cute is this!?! This tree is so whimsical. Can you imagine seeing this house through a child's eyes?

One of the guest rooms...

The guest bath on the main floor.

The formal dining room... A single ornament inspired the homeowner to use a purple and nutcracker theme in this room.

Last, but certainly not least, the husband's office/man cave...

A picture of one of the couple's fur kids, Max, the Westie.

I hope you enjoyed the tour! I would love to hear from you. Have you gone on a tour of homes? Tell me about your experience in the comments section below.
